Myers-Briggs Type Indicatorofficial elsewhere
The original sixteen types, from four preferences.
What it is
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator sorts people into sixteen types from four preferences: where you direct your energy, what you pay attention to, how you decide, and how you like to live. It was developed by Isabel Briggs Myers and her mother, Katharine Cook Briggs, from C. G. Jung's theory of psychological types.
The official instrument is published by The Myers-Briggs Company and is taken through certified practitioners or the publisher's own site.

Why people like it
A type is easy to remember and easy to talk about, and many people recognise themselves in theirs.
Worth keeping in mind
Researchers point out that most people fall near the middle of each preference rather than at one end, so a type can change from one sitting to the next.
