What you answer
Describe yourself as you generally are now, not as you wish to be in the future. Describe yourself as you honestly see yourself, in relation to other people you know of the same sex as you are, and roughly your same age.
“I am the life of the party.”
What you get
Each scale as a line between two ordinary ways to be, with every statement behind it. The result opens with one sentence about you.
Where the questions come from
Short. The Mini-IPIP (Donnellan, Oswald, Baird and Lucas, 2006): twenty of the fifty IPIP Big-Five Factor Markers. Public domain.
Full. The IPIP Big-Five Factor Markers, 50 items (Goldberg, 1992), from the International Personality Item Pool. Public domain.
With aspects. The Big Five Aspects Scales, 100 items (DeYoung, Quilty and Peterson, 2007), from the International Personality Item Pool. Public domain.
These are the published research statements, in the public domain. What we do not have is a comparison group, so a result is your place on each scale and not a percentile against other people.
What it is not
It is not a diagnosis, and no result is better than another. It is your own description of yourself, added up, and it can change. Nothing is compared with other people.
